program note:

Sketches is a set of six movements for two percussionists. Each movement, excluding the last, explores a different musical image. The first is of a snowy day in the gusty alley of University Avenue in Madison, WI. The second is of a cardboard box and its textured, rigid structures. The third is of a puddle on a drizzly evening. The fourth is an interlude. The fifth is of shadows of trees wrapping around the hard edges of houses along Bassett St. in Madison. The last movement then ties together many elements of the previous movements to send the piece to a close.
